Eighteen holes
skillfully scattered in an area of 6200.000 m2, the Cima Course shows itself
very competitive with doglegs to the right and left, with greens well
protected by sand hazards and lakes, particularly holes 16, 17 and 18.A
stream with dams and permanent flowing water crosses holes 4, 5, 6 and 13.
The course is bordered to the north by the national road 125 and spreads to
the south, where its limits are a municipal road that leads to the
Quinta da Ria Golf Course.
The greens have been seeded with Bent Crenshaw. Tees and fairways are
covered with Zoysia.
On one of the Driving Ranges, (with its generous dimensions and built in
the south/north direction), when hitting from the northern tees, one can
appreciate the magnificent view of the mountains as well as the Ocean.
Though from any part of the course both the sea and the Algarve mountains
are a delight to anyone's eyes,
On the other Driving Range, designed for practice with irons, there is
the Robinson Golf Academy. It comprises of 3 greens and 6 tees for the
teaching of the different types of game with irons, namely how to get out of
a bunker to a green 120 m distant.

Pro's Playing Tips
There is no gentle introduction. The opening par 5 and the second par 3 put
things immediately into perspective. Good club selection and accuracy off
the tee are essential. The par-4 third is a severe dog-leg left - while not
particularly long at 316 meters, strategic bunkering dictates how to arrive
at a tricky green. A pretty par 4 follows, the first to feature the stream,
flowing across the fairway in front of the small green. The approach needs
to fly high to avoid the trees that also protect the putting surface. The
long par-5 sixth (500 meters) demands a thoughtful second shot. Some 130
meters from the green the stream again bisects the fairway. The 186 meter
eighth is the longest par 3 on the course. The green is a tricky shape; you
should think carefully about your line in, as well as wind direction, which
will play havoc with the shot. Most of the par 4's on this course are
relatively long, between 360 and 415 meters. Fifteenth is a 288 meter par 4
and from the tee there are eight bunkers in view, five guarding the fairway,
forcing you to play left, No short cuts! So to the sixteenth, a magnificent
par 5. The stream crosses the fairway to a lake and you must hit both a good
second and a bold third shot for any hope of landing on the green in
regulation. While the sixteenth is truly memorable, the finishing hole, from
an elevated tee to a slick green with tricky undulations, will entice back
time and again. |
